2019 Telegraph Travel Awards winners announced
The Telegraph’s readers have revealed their favourite travel destinations, operators and experiences as the winners of The Telegraph Travel Awards 2019 were revealed today.
New Zealand retained its title of Best Country for the seventh year in a row, with Telegraph readers once again voting for it as their favourite destination. Japan rose two places to claim second place and Canada and Italy both returned to the top ten rankings after being absent from last year’s final ten. One new addition to this year’s top ten was Bhutan, which took fourth position in the best country category.
Cape Town took the honors in the Best City category, with Italy awarded the Best European Country title and St Petersburg the Best European City. For holidays closer to home, Telegraph readers awarded the title of best Cottage operator to the National Trust.
Voted for entirely by readers of The Telegraph who come to our travel content for inspiration, advice, reviews and the latest trends and news. The voting survey covered a total of 15 categories and readers who participated had the opportunity to win one of 15 ultimate luxury holidays worth a total of over £500,000. In total there were over 40,000 responses to this year’s voting survey, with the Awards providing a real insight into the travelling habits of The Telegraph’s readership.
Established in 1998, the Telegraph Travel Awards are among the longest running and most prestigious in the industry, giving readers a chance to recognise those in the sector who they feel have made the biggest impact in their travelling lives.
Claire Irvin, Head of Travel, The Telegraph said: ‘It’s been another fantastic year for the Telegraph Travel Awards, with thousands of readers taking part in one of the most in depth and editorially independent travel surveys in the world. The results confirm what prolific and curious travellers they are – but the consistency of some of the winners proves that even after exploring the world their favourites remain consistent! ‘
