Telegraph Media Group Subscription Numbers – December 17, 2020

PRESS RELEASE
17 December 2020

Telegraph Media Group (TMG) remains focused on a subscriber-first strategy underpinned by long term investment in The Telegraph’s digital transformation: the numbers that reflect the success of our business are our subscriber numbers.

TMG’s transformation will continue into the following years and the 10-1-23 strategy remains central to our vision – namely the aim to reach 10 million registrants and 1 million subscribers to sign up to the Telegraph by 2023.

We are transparent with our core monthly subscriber numbers which are omni-channel.  We also share both volumes and average revenue per subscription, as below:

In November 2020, The Telegraph had:

  • 546,668 subscriptions across print and digital, with 12,169 of net new subscriptions this month.

  • Digital = 348,904, Print =  197,764

  • ARPS (blended average revenue per subscription) of £194.40.

  • We have 6,667,962 registrants.

Weekly average number of active subscriptions across the prior financial month. This is for the 4 weeks of November covering 26th October to 22nd November.

The Subscriptions and ARPS (annual net revenue per subscription) totals are independently assured by PwC.  The last audit took place for the period ending September 2020. The next audit will take place for the period ending December 2020 and the methodology and assurances  relating to this will be published in January 2021 with December’s subscription figures.

Key highlights included:

  • Coverage of the US presidential election delivered both high subscriber engagement and an uplift in new subscriptions, as well as being the second biggest day of the year for traffic to the homepage.  This month there was continued reader interest in coverage of the pandemic, including the second lockdown, vaccine breakthroughs and the rules around Christmas.

  • The Telegraph’s new campaign: Keep Kids Active in Lockdown  campaign  was launched and You Are Not Alone returned to provide more stories of support and community spirit for readers during the second lockdown.

  • Other highlights this month included the new podcast series Bed of Lies and the launch of The Telegraph’s Christmas Charity Appeal 2020.
