TMG Subscription Numbers – January 20, 2022

PRESS RELEASE
20 January 2022

Telegraph Media Group (TMG) remains focused on a subscriber-first strategy underpinned by long term investment in The Telegraph’s digital transformation: the numbers that reflect the success of our business are our subscription numbers.

TMG’s transformation will continue into the following years and the 10-1-23 strategy remains central to our vision – namely the aim to reach 10 million registrants and 1 million subscriptions to the Telegraph by 2023.

We are transparent with our core monthly subscription numbers which are omni-channel.  We also share both volumes and average revenue per subscription, as below:

In December 2021, The Telegraph had:

  • 720,250 subscriptions across print and digital, with 25,719 net new subscriptions this month

  • Digital = 544,911 Print = 175,339

  • ARPS (blended average revenue per subscription): £174.65

Weekly average number of active subscriptions across the prior financial month. This is for the 5 weeks of December from the 29th of November until the 2nd of January. The Subscriptions and ARPS (annual net revenue per subscription) totals are independently assured by PwC. The last audit took place for the period ending December 2021. The next audit will take place for the period ending March 2022.

  Key highlights included:

  • TMG surpassed the milestone of reaching 720,000 subscriptions in December, one of its key strategic goals for 2021.

  • Reporting of the Covid-19 pandemic including coverage of the Omicron variant and new restriction announcements saw high subscriber engagement.

  • There was also high reader interest this month in politics including reporting of the North Shropshire by-election; as well as Sport’s coverage, with the finale to the F1 season producing the biggest sport liveblog of the year.

  • Bed of Lies was named Features Podcast of the Year at the British Journalism Awards.
