PRESS RELEASE
19 May 2022

Telegraph Media Group (TMG) remains focused on a subscriber-first strategy underpinned by long term investment in The Telegraph’s digital transformation: the numbers that reflect the success of our business are our subscription numbers.

TMG’s transformation will continue into the following years and the 10-1-23 strategy remains central to our vision – namely the aim to reach 10 million registrants and 1 million subscriptions to the Telegraph by 2023.

We are transparent with our core monthly subscription numbers which are omni-channel.  We also share both volumes and average revenue per subscription, as below:

In April 2022, The Telegraph had:

  • 744,721 subscriptions across print and digital, with -2,193 net new subscriptions this month*

  • Digital = 577,720 Print = 167,000

  • ARPS (blended average revenue per subscription): £171.36

Weekly average number of active subscriptions across the prior financial month. This is for the 4 weeks of April from the 4th of April until the 1st of May. The Subscriptions and ARPS (annual net revenue per subscription) totals are independently verified by PwC. The last verification took place for the period ending April 3 2022. The next verification will take place for the period ending June 2022.

Key highlights included:

  • The War in Ukraine daily liveblog continued to see high subscriber engagement, along with reporting from the region. Coverage of the Grand National, The French Election and Royal news also proved popular with subscribers this month.

  • TMG’s strategic focus remains on both subscription volume and revenue. TMG’s evolving pricing strategy reflects the drive to increase the contribution of subscription revenues to the business and April saw record average total weekly subscription revenues, with 15.9% YoY growth.
