TMG Subscription Numbers – October 20, 2022

PRESS RELEASE
20 October 2022

Telegraph Media Group (TMG) remains focused on a subscriber-first strategy underpinned by long term investment in The Telegraph’s digital transformation: the numbers that reflect the success of our business are our subscription numbers.

TMG’s transformation will continue into the following years and the 10-1-23 strategy remains central to our vision – namely the aim to reach 10 million registrants and 1 million subscriptions to the Telegraph in 2023.

We are transparent with our core subscription numbers which are omni-channel. We also share both volumes and average revenue per subscription, as below.  We will now be publishing subscription numbers on a quarterly basis inline with the verification cycle.

In September 2022, The Telegraph had:

  • 740,012 subscriptions across print and digital, with 1,668 net new subscriptions this month

  • Digital = 585,395 Print = 154,617

  • ARPS (blended average revenue per subscription): £171.99

Weekly average number of active subscriptions across the prior financial month. This is for the 5 weeks of September from the 29th August until the 2nd of October. The Subscriptions and ARPS (annual net revenue per subscription) totals are independently verified by PwC. The last verification took place for the period ending June 2022. The next verification will take place for the period ending September 2022.

Key highlights included:

  • The death of Queen Elizabeth II, the ten historic days of national mourning and the State Funeral led subscriber engagement this month across all platforms. Coverage across digital and print included historic front pages, an obituary of over fifteen thousand words, standalone supplements, a dedicated digital hub and a commemorative edition of the Telegraph Magazine.

  • There was strong subscriber engagement with coverage of the mini budget and a dedicated Cost of Living hub was launched this month.
