TMG Subscription Numbers – October 19, 2023

PRESS RELEASE
19 October 2023

Telegraph Media Group (TMG) remains focused on a subscription-first strategy underpinned by long term investment in The Telegraph’s digital transformation; the numbers that reflect the success of our business model are our subscription numbers.

Continued investment in our award-winning journalism has enabled TMG to deepen its subscriber relationships, with new editorial launches and milestones reached in Q3. In August we achieved our five year strategic goal - to reach one million subscriptions in 2023.

We disclose both volumes and average revenue per subscription as below, and remain unique in the market for doing so, with third party independent verification. We share these figures on a quarterly basis in line with the verification cycle.

In Q3 we had an overall increase of 3.9% for all subscriptions with an increase in digital subscriptions of 5% (vs Q2).

TMG subscription figures incorporate three categories:

  1. Telegraph Print

  2. Telegraph Digital

  3. Other - comprised of Telegraph Wine Cellar, Telegraph Puzzles and Chelsea Magazine Company subscriptions.

For the period ending 1st October 2023, Telegraph Media Group had:

  • 1,012,631 subscriptions

  • Print = 122,457  Digital = 669,913  Other = 220,261

  • ARPS (blended average revenue per subscription): £148.33

Weekly average number of active subscriptions across the prior financial month. This is for the 5 weeks of September from the 28th August until the 1st of October.

The next verification will take place for the period ending December 2023.

Key highlights for Q3 include:

  • The Telegraph launched a comprehensive new money advice channel, with the help of respected financial commentators: Phil Spencer, Dame Helena Morrissey and the Telegraph’s consumer champion, Katie Morley. Telegraph Money is designed to be a complete guide for all our subscribers' financial needs.

  • The Telegraph Latest App continues to go from strength to strength, now reaching over 300k subscribers per day, with dwell time also increasing.

  • The Telegraph’s recent award wins include the ‘Best News and Current Affairs Website of the Year’ at the Press Gazette Future of Media Awards in September, and the ‘Best Newsletter Launch’ for Conversations newsletter at the Publisher Newsletter Awards, in July.

  • The Telegraph hosted its first subscriber event in the US - a live recording of our podcast Ukraine: The Latest, following its continued success. The event was held at the British Embassy in Washington DC and sold out in just over 24 hours. The recording can be viewed here.

  • Telegraph Puzzles celebrated its one year anniversary. In the past year, Telegraph Puzzles has launched a dedicated puzzles website and app, as well as a new flagship crossword, and four additional games.
