Our motto ‘Was, is and will be’ remains as true today as it did when it first appeared in our pages in 1858. We are deeply proud of what we have accomplished, proud of what we are and we are ambitious about what we can become. In August 2023, we achieved our goal to reach one million paying readers. The next challenge for us: to surpass the highest paying readership in our history. In 1979, 1.5m copies of the newspaper were sold. We want to surpass that number of readers next and have more people paying for our product than at any other point in our history.

Editorial Code of Conduct

TMG is a trusted and respected media publisher, committed to providing journalism of the highest quality. Our reputation is our most vital asset. It depends, for its protection, upon you. We expect all staff to be honest, to obey the law, and to be committed to our core journalistic values of fairness, thoroughness, accuracy and integrity.

This editorial code is intended to help TMG journalists in the pursuit of best editorial practice. It should be read in conjunction with your employment contract, the Staff Handbook, the 1998 and 2018 Data Protection Act(s), the 2010 Bribery Act and the 1998 Human Rights Act. The Company provides an online IPSO Editors’ Code course for new starters and you are expected to complete the refresher course at least once every two years. If you avoid this responsibility, you may face disciplinary action. You must also read and abide by the IPSO Editors’ Code of Practice, which TMG journalists are required to follow.
