Telegraph Women’s Sport Exclusive Cover Interview with Johanna Konta
This month’s edition of Telegraph Women’s Sport (TWS) print supplement features an exclusive cover and interview with former British No. 1 Johanna Konta. The supplement is published on Thursday January 27 exclusively in The Telegraph and also available online here.
Speaking to The Telegraph’s Molly McElwee in her first major interview since her retirement in December 2021, Konta reflects on sexism, Emma Raducanu and a career that revitalised British women’s tennis.
In the interview she talks about a line of questioning in response to her retirement saying:
“As a woman, you start getting to a certain age, hitting certain milestones and then it is straightaway assumed – ‘okay, well, when’s the baby coming?'”
She adds on this point:
“I don’t think it’s done with any harm, but it would be nice to talk about my career and things like that – like my male counterparts in the sport,” she says. “I’m not sure they’re asking Rafa Nadal when he was finally going to marry his girlfriend before he did, or when he is going to have kids’.
