The Telegraph Launches Guide to the 250 Best Hotels in the UK

PRESS RELEASE
21 May 2026

The Telegraph has launched a Guide to the 250 Best Hotels in the UK which represents the very best that hospitality has to offer.

The selected hotels were chosen from a range of criteria including their locations, character, service, facilities, rooms, food and drink, plus value for money. Each of the properties on the list has been tried and tested by a network of 60 reviewers.

The interactive tool helps readers navigate the showcased hotels by entering a postcode or region. You can also use the filters provided – for example, “dog friendly”, “city” or “accessible” – to refine your search.

To ensure a wide geographical spread of hotels, the UK was divided into the nine regions of England, along with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Regional Stars were awarded by the Telegraph Travel experts to the hotel of the highest calibre in each area, with proportional weightings for Scotland, the South East and South West, which have two, three and four Stars respectively.

The 250 hotels featured were chosen from The Telegraph’s 2,000 UK hotel reviews by Telegraph Travel’s expert Hotels team: Rachel Cranshaw, Hotels Editor, Emma Beaumont, Senior Commissioning Editor, Harriet Jones, Senior Content Editor and Patrick Hamilton Courtney, Content Editor

A selection of the outstanding hotels included in the Guide:

The Chancery Rosewood, London - The luxury hotel has a fantastic rooftop bar and all-suite accommodation.

The Seaside Boarding House, Dorset - Set high above Chesil beach, the hotel has seaview rooms and a brilliant fish-focused restaurant.

The Gallivant, Camber Sands, East Sussex - Grown-up beach house with a destination restaurant and 20 individually designed rooms

The Fife Arms, Braemar, Scotland - The wildly romantic passion project from international art dealers Hauser & Wirth pairs Picassos on the wall with an on-site pub.

The Alice Hawthorn, Nun Monkton, North Yorkshire - The restaurant serves faultless gastropub fare with an annexe of Scandi barn-style rooms that have a sustainable design.

Penally Abbey, Pembrokeshire, Wales - A treat of a small hotel close to sandy beaches which also offers a halcyon restaurant.

Slieve Donard, County Down, Northern Ireland - This is one of the oldest and grandest spa hotels in the country, with a world-famous golf course on one side, mountains on the other.

South East Regional Star, The Gallivant in Camber Sands said: "We’re incredibly proud to be recognised by The Telegraph and genuinely humbled to be named the South East ‘Star’ amongst so many brilliant hotels and hardworking hospitality teams across the country.

“As a small independent business, recognition like this means a great deal. It’s a real credit to the team at The Gallivant, who care enormously about the experience we create for our guests every day".

Rachel Cranshaw, Hotels Editor, The Telegraph, said: "With a staycation boom being predicted this summer, it seemed the perfect time to select our favourite hotels in the UK. This guide is for anyone looking for honest recommendations from experts on the best in homegrown hospitality".
