Carolin Hulshoff Pol named as CEO of the Telegraph Media Group
Following approval from the Austrian and Irish regulators, the acquisition of the Telegraph by Axel Springer is now complete. To help lead the transformation of the Telegraph going forward, Axel Springer is announcing Carolin Hulshoff Pol as Chief Executive Officer of the British media group.
Carolin is one of Axel Springer’s most experienced media executives, with more than two decades of leadership experience across media, subscriptions, digital growth and commercial transformation. She has served, among other roles, as CEO of the Welt Group, before becoming the CEO of BILD, Germany’s largest news media brand, since November 2024. In her new role Carolin will work closely with Chris Evans, Editor in Chief, and the executive management team to lead the next phase of growth for TMG.
After three and a half years at the Telegraph, Anna Jones has decided to take her next step outside of TMG. She will safeguard a smooth transition to Carolin over the summer before taking on a new role for Axel Springer as their representative on the board of Awin, the global affiliate marketing network.
Mathias Döpfner Chief Executive, Axel Springer, said:-
“I am thrilled that Carolin Hulshoff Pol, one of our most experienced group CEOs, will now bring her leadership to TMG as CEO. I would like to thank Anna Jones for her exceptional leadership as CEO during the sale process. She was instrumental in shepherding through a successful sale of the Telegraph and together with the management and editorial teams, ensured the title outperformed many of its peers. I look forward to continuing to work with Anna in her role as Axel Springer’s representative on the board of Awin.”
Anna Jones said:-
“The TMG sale process has been long and complex; however, the innovation, collaboration, and sheer hard work from everyone at TMG over the last 3 years has been incredible and has made me proud to be CEO. My mission over the past three years was to get TMG into the right hands and having Axel Springer as the owners is the very best outcome for this business.
“I look forward to continuing to work with Mathias and the Axel Springer team as we transition to new leadership and as their representative on the board of Awin.”
Carolin Hulshoff Pol said:-
“The Telegraph is one of the world's great news brands, with an exceptional journalistic tradition and a clear commitment to serving its readers. It is a privilege to join Telegraph Media Group at such an important moment. I am truly grateful for the warm and open welcome from Anna and Chris and the wider team, and I look forward to working together to write the next chapter of growth of this remarkable brand.”
As part of the new leadership structure, Patrick Wehrmann, will become the Group CFO of the Telegraph Media Group, succeeding Catherine Southgate, who has held this role on an interim basis. Patrick has worked for Axel Springer for over 25 years and currently holds the position as a Managing Director Portfolio and Investments and Group FP&A. Prior to this, he worked for five years at Total Jobs and Stepstone in London.
