The Telegraph Hotel Awards reveal the world’s greatest places to stay
The inaugural Telegraph Hotel Awards showcases the 50 best hotels from across the world, ranked and rated by experts.
The list of 50 winning hotels offers a unique insight into the planet’s most amazing places to stay, from boutique city boltholes you’ll be recommending for years to come, to the big hitters that are really worth splashing out on.
The 24 judges, drawn from the Telegraph’s roster of hotel and destination experts, were split into five panels (Europe, Asia, Americas and Caribbean, Africa and Oceania) and created their shortlist from the best hotels in The Telegraph’s industry-leading collection of more than 10,000 reviews.
The judges considered factors including geographical spread, price range and types of hotel when making nominations. Each hotel was then marked according to a scoring system incorporating Telegraph review ratings, plus additional criteria including staff-to-guest ratios and in-room perks. These ratings then determined the rankings and produced the final 50.
Awards have also been given for Best New Hotel, Best Budget Hotel, Best Hotel for Sustainability, Best for Accessibility, Best for Families and Best Spa Hotel.
Rachel Cranshaw, Hotels Editor, The Telegraph, said: “A hotel can make or break a holiday – but sometimes the hotel is the holiday. The hotels we're recognising here are destinations in their own right. Our experts love them and we know our readers will too.”
Anthony Tyler, General Manager, Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, said: "It is a great honour and privilege to be recognised by the Telegraph with this accolade. It is a true reflection of our 148-year history [...] offering unparalleled experiences and hospitality. We look forward to continuing this legacy of excellence, ensuring every guest leaves with unforgettable memories."
Praising the overall winner, Lee Cobaj, head Asia judge, said: "There is simply nowhere else like it. The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is the most wonderful hotel in the world and to paraphrase Nöel Coward, I am fonder of it than ever."
