The Telegraph launches Bed of Lies: Conflict
A new series of its award-winning podcast exploring the biggest cover-up of The Troubles in Northern Ireland
The Telegraph’s investigative podcast Bed of Lies has returned for series three, presented by Telegraph Investigative Journalist Cara McGoogan, exploring true stories of greed, betrayal and deception – finding that sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.
Ahead of the highly anticipated Kenova Report into the infamous agent, Stakeknife, expected to publish this year, The Telegraph reveals, in this new series of Bed of Lies, that Freddie Scappaticci is just the tip of the iceberg. The scale of wrongdoing by British agents during the Troubles was far more extensive.
Throughout the episodes, the Telegraph has exclusive access to families bereaved by prominent loyalist agent Brian Nelson, as well as families who allege their loved ones were killed by agents who have never faced investigation.
Cara also speaks with former Met Police Commissioner Lord Stevens about his findings in the Pat Finucane Inquiry, which revealed widespread collusion between paramilitaries, the army and police. Bed of Lies reveals shocking new layers to the cover-up and shares just how extensive the infiltration of the IRA and loyalist paramilitaries really was.
Telegraph subscribers can enjoy the full series of Bed of Lies: Conflict on The Telegraph’s podcast channel via Apple Podcasts from Thursday 30th January. Non-subscribers can listen to the first two episodes from Thursday 30th January, on all podcast platforms, with subsequent episodes dropping weekly thereafter.
In the first series, Bed of Lies: Love, released in 2020, Cara investigated undercover police who deceived women they were spying on into long term relationships. In series two, Bed of Lies: Blood, released in 2021, she laid bare one of the biggest medical disasters in NHS history, the Infected Blood scandal.
Bed of Lies has won multiple industry awards, including the 2022 Press Award for News Podcast of The Year, the 2021 British Journalism Award for Features Journalism, the 2022 Society of Editors Media Freedom Award for Podcast of the Year, and three Publisher Podcast Awards.
